Some burial plans ask zero health questions and accept nearly everyone. Here is how no-health-question coverage works.
How no-health-question burial insurance works
Burial insurance with no health questions is the same as guaranteed issue or guaranteed acceptance coverage. The application skips all medical questions and any exam, so approval is essentially automatic within the carrier's age limits, usually up to 80 or 85. To balance accepting everyone, these plans use a graded death benefit: natural-cause death in the first two to three years refunds your premiums plus interest rather than the full benefit, while accidental death is typically covered in full from day one. After the graded period, the full benefit applies for any cause.
When to choose a no-health-question plan
No-health-question coverage is built for seniors with serious conditions or those who have been declined elsewhere, because acceptance is guaranteed regardless of health. If you can answer a few simple health questions favorably, however, a simplified issue plan usually costs less and pays the full benefit immediately, so it is worth checking first. Do not assume you need a no-question plan until an agent reviews your eligibility. Call 1-800-MEDIGAP (1-800-633-4427) and a licensed agent will see whether you qualify for a lower-cost option before recommending a no-health-question plan.
