If health issues have blocked you from coverage, guaranteed acceptance burial insurance is designed to say yes. Here is how it works.
How guaranteed acceptance burial insurance works
Guaranteed acceptance burial insurance, also called guaranteed issue, is whole life coverage that asks no health questions and requires no exam. Approval is essentially automatic within the carrier's age range, typically up to 80 or 85. The trade-off is a graded death benefit: if you die of natural causes during the first two to three years, the policy refunds your premiums plus interest instead of the full benefit, while accidental death is usually covered in full immediately. After the graded period ends, the full benefit applies. This design lets insurers accept everyone while guarding against immediate large claims.
Is guaranteed acceptance right for you?
Guaranteed acceptance is best for seniors who cannot qualify for other coverage because of serious health conditions, or who have been declined before. If you are reasonably healthy and can answer health questions, a simplified issue plan typically costs less and pays the full benefit from day one, so it is worth checking your eligibility there first. Because premiums and graded terms vary by carrier, comparing matters. Call 1-800-MEDIGAP (1-800-633-4427) and a licensed agent will confirm whether you qualify for a lower-cost simplified issue plan before defaulting to guaranteed acceptance.
