CSFP is a free, USDA-funded monthly food package built for low-income seniors. Here is who qualifies and how to get it.
Who qualifies for the senior CSFP food box?
To qualify for CSFP, you must be at least 60 years old and have a household income at or below 130% of the federal poverty guidelines โ roughly $1,632 per month for one person or $2,215 for two in 2025. You must live in the state where you apply and provide proof of age, income, and residence. Receiving Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or SNAP does not disqualify you. In fact, many seniors who get SNAP also receive CSFP. A few states set slightly higher income limits, so always check with your local distributing agency before assuming you are over the line.
What comes in the monthly CSFP package?
Each CSFP box contains a rotating selection of nutritious USDA Foods chosen for older adults: shelf-stable or UHT milk, 100% juice, hot and cold cereals, rice or pasta, dry beans or peanut butter, canned meat, poultry or fish, canned fruits and vegetables, and cheese. Contents change month to month based on USDA supply and your state agency. The package supplements your diet rather than replacing all your groceries, so most seniors combine it with SNAP, local food pantries, or Meals on Wheels. There is no cost for the food and no copay.
How to enroll in CSFP
Because CSFP is run state by state through food banks and senior centers, there is no national online form. Contact your state's CSFP distributing agency or a participating local food bank, senior center, or Area Agency on Aging to apply. You will certify your income and show proof of age and residence, then pick up your package monthly โ some sites deliver to homebound seniors. Certification usually lasts one to three years. Not sure where to start? Call 1-800-MEDIGAP and we will help you find the nearest CSFP site and check other benefits you may qualify for.
